Spurring the “TV anywhere” push, Aereo looks to relocate your screen-watching habits from your couch to … well, anywhere. The paid service looks just like the cable-box channel guide you’re used to, except you don’t even need a television. Play it from your laptop just as you would Netflix. Or play it from your iPad, iPhone or Roku box. While there are some stark limitations right now — it’s only available in New York City and is restricted to over-the-air channels — the idea behind it is an industry shaker, not least because it’s funded by pioneering TV executive Barry Diller, who helped found the Fox network. The broadcast industry isn’t pleased, but Aereo hopes to spread nationwide by next year.
