Distance to Mars is a beautiful, clever site that does one thing: it gives you a sense of how far it is from the Earth to Mars. It does so by showing you an image of our planet that’s 100 pixels wide. Then you scroll through the universe, at 7,000 pixels a second, until you reach Mars, which is 428,000 pixels away. You’re left with a tangible understanding of why it’ll be so much harder to get there than it was to reach the moon, a mere 3,000 pixels away.
