When it comes to desktop productivity suites, Microsoft Office dominates the market so utterly that it’s easy to forget it has competition. On the Internet, however, Office’s free online edition plays distinct underdog to Google Docs. But Microsoft has been steadily improving its browser-based editions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. They’re far fresher looking than their Google equivalents, handle Microsoft’s file formats with aplomb and no longer feel starved for basic features. For casual use, they could be all the Office you need.
