Wouldn’t it be wonderful if someone let you listen to great music before it hit stores? Meet NPR’s First Listen, the place to pre-hear everything from fresh movie soundtracks to your favorite indie band’s latest to artists playing styles of music you’ve never heard before (say, “Saharan guitar rock”). You have to keep on top of street dates, of course — once those pass, the audio (by necessity) disappears — but NPR typically rolls things out a week in advance, letting you listen during the interim as many times as you like.
