Remember Zip Disks? They made 3.5-inch diskettes look downright foolish! Well, sort of. While a Zip Disk held almost 70 times the data of an ordinary diskette, the technology was somewhat expensive and very few computers came with built-in Zip Drives. Oh, and in 1998 the CD burner was lurking right around the corner, preparing for mainstream consumer adoption.
Fate: Zip Disks were killed by CD burners and economics. Iomega still exists.
