I hemmed and hawed about whether to put the original SimCity on this list, or go with SimCity 2000. But SimCity 2000 is just too good compared to the original.
There’s so much to see and do in SimCity 2000 that it felt like you could spend a lifetime on a single city. The corner-viewed angles of each building, bridge, road, waterway, hill and valley made the follow-up to the original feel more lifelike than ever, and the constant input from your city advisers and the local newspaper made your role as mayor feel especially realistic.
SimCity 2000‘s follow-up, SimCity 3000, carries over much of what made SimCity 2000 so great, and then adds some extra polish and new features on top. To this day, SimCity 3000 is one of my favorite games — but it owes most of its charm to SimCity 2000.
