Why do people still play Counter-Strike today, more than 13 years after its debut as a Half-Life mod? Probably because no other game has matched the simple suspense of a four-on-four, single-elimination shooter with fairly realistic gun recoil and damage.
Counter-Strike has little patience for players who run into rooms with guns blazing, and they’ll quickly learn that careful movement, steady aim and good teamwork are what win the game. At a time when over-the-top action and points for style are norm in competitive shooters, that’s actually quite refreshing.
