If laptops had ears, the MacBook Air’s ones would be burning. Apple’s super-portable notebook was easily 2012’s most influential computer, providing obvious inspiration for an avalanche of Windows-based Ultrabooks, some of which are so Air-like that it’s a tad creepy. Apple’s aluminum-clad, solid-state originals, in 11″ (starting at $999) and 13″ (starting at $1199) variants, retain all of their appeal; they’re just beautifully-made, pleasant-to-use computers. Unless you need the MacBook Pro line’s extra-potent processors, capacious hard drives and Retina screens, an Air is the mobile Mac to get.
